Join us for World Teachers’ Day

To mark World Teachers’ Day on 5 October, we are organising a special session at EDLAB to celebrate your contribution to education at UM. We hope you will join us!

The event will begin with coffee, tea and a treat, and gives you the chance to meet fellow teachers and share your experiences of teaching at UM. We will then come together for the following session:

Connecting theory to practice: revisiting historical perspectives on education through the lens of CCCS

Teaching is a profession that often takes place in widely complex contexts. Every day it seems that new content, skills, expertise and implications need to be brought to the table. But apart from being a profession that requires a multifaceted pallet of up-to-date skills, teaching is also a very old profession. Reflecting on that aspect specifically, what can we learn from historical theories and perspectives on education, learning, teaching and development? Why may they still hold and can they give us “new” insights in our current practice? During this session we will explore three “historical” perspectives on education, learning and development and apply them to our vision on education and UM and everyday teaching practices.

After this session you:

• … have gained an understanding of various core concepts related to three pedagogical/educational theories,
• … have connected various core concepts related to pedagogical/educational theories and perspectives to the UM vision on education,
• … have reflected on various core concepts related to pedagogical/educational theories and their relation to the vision on education at UM and your own personal vision on education and teaching.

Please note that the outcomes of this session will also be used for future sessions and an online module on our “EDLAB Teaching and Learning Modules” on Canvas.

This activity may count towards your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) if relevant to your situation.

Facilitator of the session

Eveline Persoon is passionate about teaching, learning and psychology and teaches various psychology courses at UCM since 2017.  Since 2021, Eveline is a member of the professional development for teaching and learning programme at EDLAB and facilitates professional development activities for UM teachers on various topics like student motivation & engagement and effective reflective practices.

Note about the costs
EDLAB is currently offering all professional development activities free of charge. Please note however that we have paid to develop and offer this session together with the trainers, so if you sign up but cannot attend, we would greatly appreciate it if you could give us at least 5 days’ notice so that we can advertise your spot to others who may be interested. Cancellation without at least 5 days’ notice or failure to show up may result in your department being charged the full cost price.

EDLAB reserves the right to postpone this event should a minimum of 6 participants not be reached.
